Is there a cost associated with the program?
There is no cost to be a mentor. Most mentors do spend money on outings to purchase lunch, ice cream, admission, etc.; however, you can choose to do activities that are free such as going to the beach or park.
How will my mentee be selected?
Mentors and mentees are matched based upon gender, geographical location, and common interests.
How long does it take to become a mentor?
The process to become a mentor can take as little as a few weeks, up to a few months. This primarily depends on how quickly you move through the application and training process.
After I complete my background checks and training, how long will it take to be matched with my mentee?
The length of the matching process varies with each case. Some matches are completed with in a few weeks, but some take longer.
How long will I work with my mentee?
Our minimum time requirement is 1 hour a week for 3 months. If the relationship is healthy and positive, you are more than welcome to exceed those requirements.
Can I mentor with my spouse/partner/significant other?
Couples are welcome to mentor together. As a couple, you can choose to mentor an individual child or a sibling group.
Can my mentee meet my spouse/children/family members/etc.?
After you have worked with your mentee for a minimum of 3 months, you can apply for home visit approval. For home visit approval, everyone living in your home (including children) must submit to and pass background checks, and a case manager will have to complete a safety check on your home.
